STRENGTHS
  1. Located in a scenic area, in the foothill of the Himalayas the college enables environment friendly teaching and learning practices.
  2. The college is established is one of the Heritage building of Sikkim which was constructed by the then Chogyal (Maharaja of Sikkim) in 1960.Progressive Student Enrolment from the time of the college establishment i.e., 179 (2012) – 1548 (2021).
  3. Own institutional building with an area spread across  3.5175 Hectares, amidst greenery in a peaceful place away from the crowded city life.
  4. Qualified and experienced teaching staff with most of the teachers in the process of further upgrading their qualifications (out of 45 faculties 11 faculties are Ph.D holders and 17 faculties are pursuing Ph.D).
  5. Impressive performances of students with the aggregate pass percentage of B.A. 87.31% & B. Com 93.06 % approx.
  6. Progressing towards establishment of well-equipped e-library in campus with remote access to Sikkim University Library and Inflibnet, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat.
  7. Wi-Fi enabled campus (100 MBPS)
  8. Continuous Hot and cold drinking water facilities for students. Faculties and staff.
  9. Upcoming 100 bedded Girls Hostel in the campus is under construction which will be completed by December 2022.
  10. Teacher mentor system for individual and holistic development of the students.
  11. Tutorial and remedial classes for weak and underperforming students.
  12. Free education for COI and RC holder and Low Course fees for Non-COI/RC/BPL holder.
  13. Inclusive approach of the institution wherein student fraternity through SRC and senior students are included in decision making process regarding college development.
  14. The institution strives for women empowerment: this is reflected in an all-Girls NCC wing of the College and other initiatives.
  15. The College has young and dynamic Academic and administrative staffs that provide all the necessary support to the students and in the Institutional Strengthening Process of the College.
  16. The College strives for a contemporary approach towards student’s knowledge enhancement. The College has signed MOU with Shivaji College, University of Delhi under Vidhya Vistar Scheme of Delhi University.
WEAKNESSES
  1. The college is yet to have all the required basis infrastructure for smooth functioning.
  2. The library has limited resources with less number of books and journals.
  3. The College does not have enough classroom, indoor gymnasium and common room for students.
  4. The college is yet to be accredited by NAAC.
  5. Grants for research work, research projects can’t be availed as well as scholarship schemes such as ISHAN UDAY.
  6. Limitations in introduction of Lab based Degree programmes such as B.Sc.  B.A Geography, Physical Education, Journalism etc.
  7. Limited facilities for co-curricular activities.
  8. Require more faculty and trained technical staff for better student – teacher ratio.
  9. The geographical location of the College often leads to weak internet and network reception.
  10. Less number of regular faculties and Administrative staff.
OPPORTUNITIES
  1. Since the college is located in the state capital- Gangtok, it attracts students from all over the state and the adjoining regions.
  2. Gangtok being the capital of the state offers a lot of opportunities to the students to pursue various skill development programs in their spare time as it provide lot of job opportunities and other facilities to the young minds.
  3. Upcoming new Campus should help in eliminating infrastructure issues.
  4. Partnering with Industry and alumni to enhance research focus as well align teaching with real world needs and improve student employability.
  5. Diploma courses for up skilling and enhancing employability in association with Govt. of Sikkim.
  6. Students from all across the state and surrounding regions attend the college because of its location in the state capital which provides wide range of options for enhancing their skills in their spare time.
  7. More number of faculties, Administrative and Accounts staff should be recruited by the Directorate of Higher Education for smooth functioning of the college.
CHALLENGES
  1. Motivating the students with limited resources and Infrastructure.
  2. Revamping the documentation system and its digitization process.
  3. Computerization and automation of administration and library facilities.
  4. Lack of compound fencing is encouraging trespassing and anti-social activities.
  5. Identifying industry and academic partners for collaboration.
  6. Identifying avenues for research & other funding.
  7. Organising different events and programs with limited infrastructure.
  8. Accommodating huge numbers of students in the college.
